A Director in our London office and joint head of the team based in Marylebone, Farhana is an accredited family law specialist, a collaborative lawyer and a qualified mediator.
Farhana joined the Family Law Partners team in 2021, having built up more than 19 years’ experience in family law, including at various regional and City firms where she held Partner and Head of Department roles. Farhana is the founder of The Family Law Menopause Project which aims to raise awareness amongst the family law community of the impact of menopause so that family lawyers can ensure that their advice leads to the fairest financial outcome for female clients as they approach retirement.
Farhana has extensive expertise across the full family law spectrum, including divorce and separation, cohabitation and children cases. She has additional skills in supporting clients in same sex relationships, modern families and clients from a faith background, including those of Jewish or Islamic heritage.
A Recommended Individual and Leading Mediator in the Legal 500, 2023 edition, the commentary included: “Farhana Shahzady: exceptionally hardworking she goes the extra mile for her clients. She is passionate about the people and causes she works for.”

She is a Resolution Accredited Specialist in both financial and children cases as well as being a Law Society Family Law Panel member. Farhana has a reputation for her strategic, yet sensitive, handling of complex cases with both a financial and children component.
Ranked previously as a leading expert in family law by Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500, Chambers UK (2019 edition) remarked: “Farhana Shahzady frequently acts on acrimonious divorce claims involving property and company assets and also offers experience in child arrangement matters”. One interviewee states “Her ability to quickly evaluate and assess as well as show empathy, provides the confidence and reassurance I seek as a client”.
A dedicated and forward-thinking family lawyer, Farhana holds various positions that reflect her commitment to the profession together with her dispute resolution credentials. She is a Resolution Director (one of only 20 nationwide), a member of Resolution’s Publications Committee and sits on the Resolution National Committee. Farhana is a skilled Collaborative Lawyer and is a member of North London Pod and South West London Pod.
She regularly contributes to national and regional media stories on the subject of family law and co-authored the Resolution Family Law Handbook which launched in 2020. Farhana also presents on financial remedies for Resolution and has contributed to Westlaw Encyclopaedia, Reuters Masterclass and Expert Guides.
Outside of work Farhana enjoys netball, live music and eating donuts.
