Gemma specialises in dealing with the financial and children issues that can arise following separation, divorce or civil partnership dissolution with a particular expertise in financial matters involving pension funds, inherited wealth, business assets and in children matters involving issues relating to parental responsibility, parenting arrangements, removal from the jurisdiction. Gemma works regularly with LGBT families and the complex legal issues that can arise within such family structures.
Gemma encourages an interdisciplinary approach to help achieve the best possible outcome for her clients and works closely alongside financial advisers, accountants, therapists and counsellors. Her objective is to ensure the emotional and financial issues arising from personal relationships and separation are dealt with as well as the legal ones to help people find longer term solutions and to help them move on positively with their lives.
Before joining the firm Gemma obtained a first-class honors in the Family Law elective within her Law degree at Sheffield University, where she also secured a postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice with a distinction. After leaving academia Gemma worked for 12 years at a large regional law firm before joining Family Law Partners in 2017 having been attracted by the firm’s values and ethos as well as their innovative and forward thinking approach to helping families through separation.
Outside of work Gemma enjoys rock climbing, hiking, winter mountaineering, yoga, pilates and cycling.
