Gemma is a Solicitor, Collaborative Lawyer and Mediator committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes. She is a member of Resolution and a Resolution Accredited Specialist (Children and Complex Financial Remedies).
Gemma promotes a non-confrontational approach to resolving family issues to minimise conflict and always focuses on solutions that are in the best interests of any children.
The 2021 edition of Chambers UK has recognised Gemma, stating that she is “supremely intelligent, thorough and pragmatic.”
Legal 500 has recommended Gemma in the 2021 edition, stating that ‘Gemma is a highly talented financial remedy practitioner with an in-depth knowledge of the law; she works extremely hard for her clients to achieve best outcomes.‘
She has also been recognised as a leading expert in the field of family law by Chambers UK 2018 who describes Gemma as a ‘collaborative lawyer who advises on financial remedy matters involving businesses, inherited wealth and pensions. “She is able to be conciliatory and firm as necessary,” an impressed interviewee reports’.
Gemma specialises in dealing with the financial and children issues that can arise following separation, divorce or civil partnership dissolution with a particular expertise in financial matters involving pension funds, inherited wealth, business assets and in children matters involving issues relating to parental responsibility, parenting arrangements, removal from the jurisdiction. Gemma works regularly with LGBT families and the complex legal issues that can arise within such family structures.
Gemma encourages an interdisciplinary approach to help achieve the best possible outcome for her clients and works closely alongside financial advisers, accountants, therapists and counsellors. Her objective is to ensure the emotional and financial issues arising from personal relationships and separation are dealt with as well as the legal ones to help people find longer term solutions and to help them move on positively with their lives.
Before joining the firm Gemma obtained a first class honors in the Family Law elective within her Law degree at Sheffield University, where she also secured a postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice with a distinction. After leaving academia Gemma worked for 12 years at a large regional law firm before joining Family Law Partners in 2017 having been attracted by the firm’s values and ethos as well as their innovative and forward thinking approach to helping families through separation.
Outside of work Gemma enjoys rock climbing, hiking, winter mountaineering, yoga, pilates and cycling.
