More about Jodie

Where did you grow up – where is home for you?

I was born and raised in Glasgow Scotland, and moved to Eastbourne which has been my home for the last 16 years.

What attracted you to study in Brighton?

Brighton offered variability in educational courses, with a view of promoting equal opportunities for all who looked to undertake personal development. I previously studied in Brighton on a Nursing Degree so was familiar with the City.

What led you to study law?

I am very passionate about Looked after Children within local authority settings after working within the health and social care setting for 17 years. I enjoy advocacy work in this area and would like to drive policy changes to implement and improve the standards of care in this field.

Do you have any thoughts on where your studies might take you professionally? Where do you see yourself in the future?

Family Law and children’s services is where I would like to explore and utilise my theory and practical based competencies, that I have gained through 17 years of health and social care background. Integrating my law degree to challenge existing structures and policies for better practice and standards of care, to promote innovation for future generations.

What are you hoping to get out of the Family Law Partners scholarship scheme?

Through the generosity of the scholarship, I hope to establish new knowledge and skills to enhance my own personal development within the field of Law. As well as gaining vital practical experience within a solicitors’ office and in Court, to better understand the processes of being a Family Law Solicitor or Barrister.

What do you enjoy spending time on away from studying? What are your hobbies, your passions?

I am passionate about interior design and home renovations in my spare time. I enjoy country walks, swimming, horse riding and supporting animal conservation.

I am equally passionate about women in leadership and empowerment and learning about peoples behaviours in society.
