"My long-term goal is to build a career where I can make a meaningful difference, advocate for those who may not have a voice, and contribute positively to my community."
I was born in Zimbabwe and spent my early years there before moving to the UK in April 2012 to live with my aunt following the loss of my parents. Growing up between two countries has shaped my identity and perspective in many ways. While Zimbabwe will always be part of who I am, the UK is where I have built my life, continued my education, and developed a sense of stability. Today, I consider the UK my home.
I was drawn to the University of Brighton because of its supportive and inclusive environment, as well as its strong focus on student wellbeing and practical learning. Brighton as a city is diverse, vibrant, and welcoming, which made it feel like a place where I could grow both academically and personally. I wanted to study somewhere that not only valued education but also supported students through their individual journeys.
My personal experiences growing up and navigating life after the loss of my parents played a significant role in my decision to study law. I became more aware of how important legal systems are in protecting individuals, especially those in vulnerable situations. This inspired me to pursue law so that I can better understand these systems and eventually use my knowledge to support others, particularly in areas such as family law where people often need guidance during difficult times.
In the future, I see myself working within the legal field, ideally specialising in family law. I am particularly interested in supporting individuals and families through complex and often emotional situations.
The Family Law Partners scholarship represents both financial support and an opportunity for professional growth. I hope to gain insight into the practical side of law, build connections within the legal field, and develop my confidence as a future legal professional. This support will also help ease financial pressures, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies and make the most of my time at university.
Outside of my studies, I value spending time with my family and those close to me, as they are a big source of support and motivation in my life. I also enjoy hiking, which allows me to clear my mind and stay active, as well as playing games online as a way to relax and unwind.Recently, I have taken on significant responsibilities as a guardian, which has strengthened my sense of responsibility and resilience. This experience has become an important part of my life and continues to shape who I am both personally and professionally.
