Together with the Living Wage Foundation, Family Law Partners are pleased to announce that they have been accredited as a Living Wage employer.
The news coincides with Living Wage Week (2nd – 8th November 2014) which is the Nationwide celebration of the Living Wage and Living Wage Employers.
The Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at the firm, regardless of whether they are permanent employees or third-party contractors and suppliers; receive a minimum hourly wage of £7.65 – significantly higher than the national minimum wage of ££6.50.
The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. The Living Wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’; for the UK. Decisions about what to include in this standard are set by the public; it is a social consensus about what people need to make ends meet.
Employers choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis. The Living Wage enjoys cross party support, with public backing from the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.
We are delighted to welcome Family Law Partners and Gerard Maye Legal to the Living Wage movement as accredited employers. The best employers are voluntarily signing up to pay the Living Wage now. The Living Wage is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.
We have accredited almost 1,000 leading employers, ranging from independent printers, hairdressers and breweries, to well-known companies such as Nationwide, Aviva and SSE. These businesses recognise that clinging to the national minimum wage is not good for business. Customers expect better than that.
As reported by The Law Society Gazette, lawyers have been at the forefront of efforts in the private sector to establish a sustainable minimum wage. Family Law Partners join a number of magic circle law firms, and fellow Brighton firm Gerard Maye Legal, who have signed up to the scheme which is gathering momentum nationwide.
The firm believes more can be done to support the scheme in the South East where only 47 organisations in the region have become accredited employers
We believe that paying the living wage is not only the right thing to do, but makes good business sense too. Smart employers understand that attracting and retaining good people is vitally important – no more so than in legal services where clients really get to know the team advising them. Family Law Partners are delighted to pledge our support to the scheme.
