Family Law Partners funds new scholarships for students to study law
The scholarships from Family Law Partners – the Law Society’s Medium Law Firm of the Year 2019 – will support candidates from lower socio-economic backgrounds or black and black-mixed heritage to study law at the University.
This scholarship programme will provide economic support for six local law students during the entirety of their undergraduate studies. Additionally, Family Law Partners will provide mentoring opportunities through its family law specialists to help prepare students for future legal careers.
Robert Williams and Alan Larkin, Founding Directors of Family Law Partners said:
“We are thrilled to play an active role in supporting legal careers in the local community and assisting students who may find accessing higher education difficult.
“As a firm, we are passionate about nurturing the next generation of legal talent and ensuring that the public is served by lawyers from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and not just those individuals fortunate enough to have the financial means to study law. After some reflection on how we could meaningfully support this aim, our 10 year anniversary provided the perfect opportunity to announce this scholarship initiative with our friends at the University of Brighton.”
Professor Toni Hilton, Dean of the University’s School of Business and Law, said:
“I am delighted to accept this generous scholarship from Family Law Partners. We are proud to share a commitment to improve social justice with this innovative local law firm. This scholarship fund and mentoring activities further strengthens our collaboration to support the ambitions of students from backgrounds that are under-represented within the legal profession.”
